"Fear not, for I am with you; be not

dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen

you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with

My righteous right hand."

Isaiah 41:10

Today was the beginning of the wild dash to the grocery store for last week's sales before the real rush with this week's Thanksgiving Day sales bargains and bogos. I've never been a last minute shopper, and I am definitely not a Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopper. I'm not even sure what that means, but everyone gets into it, even ministries. They seem to be the worse. My emails were explosive today with all these reminders of Giving Tuesday. When did that begin? I guess I'm outdated, and I prefer snail mail, and it seems to find its way to my mail box without delay. When I moved from New Mexico here to Virginia I neglected to update my address with most of the places, because I wanted to limit my mail. I stay in touch with many ministries online, and it is much easier, but regardless of my efforts, everyone found me here in Virginia. Over the years it has gotten out of control. If these non-profits stopped sending me unsolicited mail, they would save on postage. They would also save on cards, address labels, note pads and tote bags. I'm sure they have many of these items donated free of charge, but I will never be able to use up all the labels I receive. I am grateful, and I try to reciprocate, but it's too much. So forgive me. I really wish I could respond. Perhaps God is hinting that I need to go back to work!

Today is Day 7 of our study, and CBN is highlighting God's righteousness. Righteousness is defined as "morally right" or "just." I love the verse found in Romans 3 in which Paul the Apostle defines God's righteousness through faith:

"But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus" (Romans 3:21-26).

God is perfect, and in Him is no unrighteousness, because He is a Holy God. This is why He cannot dwell with sinful man. In Genesis, as we discussed previously, God created a perfect world in creation, so when Adam and Eve sinned, He could no longer allow them to dwell with Him. Jesus, being God in the flesh, took our sins on Himself in order to ransom sinful man from death. It is only through Jesus that we, as believers in Christ, have become the righteousness of God according to the Scripture in 2 Corinthians 5:21:

"For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."

1 John 2:29 says: "If you know that He is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of Him."

God desires that we live righteous lives, walking in integrity and honesty before all men. Many times Jesus spoke about the importance of caring for the needs of orphans, widows, and the homeless, and Jesus even used the Parable of the Good Samaritan to demonstrate the act of a righteous man. In the book of Hebrews, chapter 11, Abraham was accounted as righteous for his faith. The entire chapter is a record of the men and women of the Old Testament whose faith was accounted as righteousness by God. His desire is to live in relationship with us, and as we walk according to His ways, our lives are being transformed by the renewing of our minds, conforming to the likeness of Christ.

I have so much to be thankful for beginning with my salvation, and the life I now have in Christ Jesus. The most important thing in my life is my personal relationship with Jesus, and I get to dwell in the presence of my Abba Father each day through the power of His indwelling Holy Spirit. As we anticipate Thanksgiving this year, what are you most thankful to God for in your life? How has He set you free and made you righteous through faith in Jesus Christ?
