"The LORD will guide you continually,
and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your
bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like
a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
Those from among you shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach,
the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In."
Isaiah 58:11-12
So, it's finally gotten to this?! The fork in the road, the line in the sand, the crossroads, the defining moment in your life when you can no longer hesitate, sit on the fence, or waver between two opinions. This is the pivotal point where risking all will lead you to experience something that fundamentally changes you.
There's a generation of young people who are starving for attention - they want truth. They've broken their backs on the ignorance of mankind who allowed things to get to this point of utter confusion, because parents and teachers were so busy trying to shuffle household responsibilities and excessive work demands that the latch key kid became enslaved to the instruction and indoctrination of iPads, video games, and cell phones. Gone are the days when socialization included recess time spent on the playground outside with school friends, walks in the woods, or a day at the park. Imagination has taken on a different meaning, a different art expression, and it can no longer be called true creative genius. They have been placated by well-meaning adults who are clueless as to how to help. Meanwhile, moral depravity has seeped in to twist their minds and hearts, until either a shell of a person or a twisted version of a son or daughter remains. And then they as why? how? Where did we go wrong? We gave them everything they wanted? We took them to church. We gave them a good time!
This is our world today! Can it be "fixed?" or merely "placated."
As Jesus prepared to ascend into heaven, He spoke the following mandate to His disciples: "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8). As He ascended into heaven, two angels appeared to the disciples to get them get busy, as they were standing there, probably with their mouths open, gawking and wondering, "what now?"
And yet, today, many well-meaning believers in Jesus are still wondering what can be done? And like most people, when in doubt...or denial...blame it on the government! That's the way it has always been, blame it on someone else, never taking responsibility for any wrong. But, the Apostle Peter left us a huge clue in the book that bears his name, 1 Peter 4:17: "For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Church youth groups with games and refreshments are not the answer, taking them bowling or playing games with them on a Wednesday night won't cut it. Giving them all the new toys and gadgets won't help. We know there's only one answer, but Jesus isn't physically walking the earth today, so that He can sit down with them and give them the answers they seek. When He ascended, He gave that responsibility to the church, beginning with the parents. Sadly, we have failed. They want to see truth. They don't see it on the faces of the church people, and many who are confused are afraid to speak out and ask the hard questions that they want to ask for fear of mistreatment or belittling, or their parents throwing up their arms in bewilderment, not having the time to put up with this mess! So they are left to find those who are "like minded," where they can find acceptance into a society of friends. Everyone seeks love and acceptance, even if misguided or deluded. One thing is certain, the enemy has his agents in every school, on every street corner, in every haunt or hangout, and even in the church.
Recently I asked my younger son, who turned 49 last month, about why he doesn't want to attend church services. When I first moved here, he was anxious to go and had been going, but something happened. But now he says he's sick of all the "plastic people," who wear fake smiles and pretend they're glad to see you, all the while noticing that your clothes aren't the best, even though they are clean and well-groomed. The pastor seemingly notices the awkwardness of the situation, and trying to bridge the gap, makes a suggestion, "Let's get together and talk sometimes soon. I'll call you." But, the days go by, then the weeks, and soon becomes another empty promise. Even when my son was attending the church regularly, helping out with repairs and supporting community events, no one called or visited or seemed to notice or leave the 99 to go after the 1 as Jesus instructed. I've seen that myself, even heard a pastor say that he wasn't going to go after anyone who left the church. I found that to be true myself when it was my time to go elsewhere.
I know I am always saying this, but we must do better. The generations need us, especially the younger ones. The schools are a mess when they have adopted the belief that it is perfectly acceptable for elementary school children to read sexually explicit literature or witness the acts on film or on the streets in a parade or demonstration where little kids are getting free haircuts. Or in high schools where it is reasonable to have a litter box available for a child who thinks he's a cat to go relieve himself or herself or itself. This is wrong, it is hideous, it is disgusting, and it is SIN! We must do better, because these kids are being swayed by the demonic forces that roam this earth. The church must arise, and we must support the kids by saying No Longer!
We, as His followers, as the Body of Christ, called by His Name, are called to be repairers of the breach. This is a Biblical concept, but even AI can spell it out better: "Repairer of the breach is a biblical concept, primarily found in the book of Isaiah. It refers to individuals who work to mend broken relationships, address social injustices, and restore unity between people and God. Essentially, they are called to fix what is damaged or broken, both literally and figuratively."
Let's not leave it to AI to "fix" the problem by providing friendship to those who are lonely, misunderstood, abandoned by the family and the church by offering the lost companionship. It is time for the church to wake up and be the church Jesus called us to be before it truly is too late.
