Day 10 A Day Without....

Risen is a movie filmed in 2016, starring Joseph Fiennes, as a Roman military tribune, Clavius, who has an encounter with the risen Savior. In the opening scene he is returning to Rome from a bloody battle, and he stops at the shrine of his god Mars to pay tribute. Wearied by the battle and carnage, his clothes bloodied, he makes a request of Mars for one day without war. Imagine that!

There have been days when I've asked God for the very same thing, a day without war or protests, hatred, name calling, rage, to name a few things I could live without. Waking up to news of one more soldier killed or one more body found in the rubble of Gaza, while many others are unaccounted for or being held hostage. Dead or alive they are being held. The agony of the parents, wives, children, and friends is unimaginable. The wildfires in California are still uncontained at this writing, and so many acres have been lost, animals dead, homes burned down with finger pointing and accusations being made. Winds fanning the flames and shortage of water. Daily I receive several notices reporting news from other countries about martyred saints or kidnappings in Nigeria or other ISIS, Boko Haram, or Fulani Herdsmen controlled areas. It takes all morning to wade through my email, and the snail mail often brings many requests for assistance in response to more bad news.

Sometimes I feel like disappearing for a season, or as I often say, digging a hole and crawling in! And there's more, as the mail is not my only avenue of discouraging news. I'm beginning to screen my calls, as I just need some quiet before I face the noise of the day. It becomes deafening, and that's quite a feat as I already have noise in my head from multiple head trauma. The noise buzzing in my head sounds like bugs in the woods at night. Then there's family drama, for lack of a better word, that makes me feel helpless. Life! Or is this living?!

It's interesting the things on my mind. But it gives me something to think about. I tend to do a lot of that. Perhaps it's time to adjust my thoughts.
